Ingredients
For the Chocolate Cake
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
- ¾ cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
- ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240ml) hot coffee (or hot water)
For the Chocolate Frosting
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3½ cups (420g) powdered sugar
- ⅔ cup (60g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ¼–⅓ cup (60–80ml) heavy cream or milk

Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Cake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and line two 9-inch (23cm) round cake pans with parchment paper.
Step 2: Make the Batter
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
- Beat until smooth.
- Slowly stir in the hot coffee until the batter is thin and well combined.
Step 3: Bake
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 4: Prepare the Frosting
- Beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
- Mix in the vanilla and salt.
- Add the heavy cream a little at a time until the frosting becomes smooth and spreadable.
Step 5: Assemble the Cake
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate.
- Spread a thick layer of chocolate frosting over the top.
- Add the second cake layer.
- Frost the top and sides evenly.
- Decorate with chocolate curls or chocolate chips if desired.
