Honey Bun

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 3¾ cups (470g) all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 2¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup (180ml) warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • ¼ cup (60ml) warm water
  • ¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Filling

  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon honey

For the Honey Glaze

  • 1½ cups (180g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  3. Mix in the flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

  1. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and honey until smooth.

Step 3: Shape the Honey Buns

  1. Roll the dough into a 12×18-inch (30×45 cm) rectangle.
  2. Spread the cinnamon-honey filling evenly over the dough.
  3. Roll the dough tightly into a log.
  4. Slice into 12 equal pieces and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  5. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the buns are lightly golden.
  3. Allow them to cool for about 10 minutes.

Step 5: Make the Glaze

  1. Whisk together the powdered sugar, honey, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Drizzle generously over the warm honey buns.
